Since around 2013, vans have included a smart alternator which is intended to save power when your van battery is full. This however meant that traditional split charge relays no longer worked. A B2B or Battery to Battery charger is now required. Unlike others available on the market, this one is solid state meaning it does not have any PCPs, fans or vulnerable electronics. Another unique feature is the auto ignition detection meaning you dont need an additional wire to your ignition.
All vans it turns out are different in terms of smart alternator charging, we have seen some as low as 11.9v charging while van is running. This means even if you have another type of B2B which is not programmable to suit your van, you’ll be having problems with battery life and wondering why.
